NEW PODCAST BACK FROM THE BRINK AIRS JULY 23

0:00 Rae, you know what's having a comeback
0:02 right now?
0:03 Wide leg jeans.
0:05 I didn't know you were such a fashion
0:06 expert, [music] Peter.
0:07 You know what else is making a comeback?
0:09 Please tell me.
0:10 Corded headsets,
0:12 vinyl records, [music]
0:14 and the American alligators.
0:16 Okay, one of those things is not quite
0:18 like [music] the other.
0:19 No, there's something they all have in
0:20 common. They've all made a comeback.
0:22 Well, I mean, who doesn't like a
0:24 comeback story? I mean, we're always
0:26 rooting for the underdog. They went from
0:28 a population of about 167 singing males
0:32 in 1974, recovered all the way to being
0:34 delisted from the endangered species
0:36 list in 2019.
0:38 Green turtles have made an extraordinary
0:41 recovery. A lot of that comes from
0:44 stopping the poaching of them and also
0:47 protecting beaches where they nest.
0:49 This is Back From the Brink, [music] a
0:51 podcast from Mutual of Omaha's Wild
0:53 Kingdom.
0:54 Hi, I'm Peter Gross.
0:55 And I'm Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant. And this
0:57 season, we're highlighting some of the
0:59 most remarkable recovery stories from
1:01 the natural world and talking with the
1:04 people who refuse to let these species
1:06 go extinct. To be pushed to near
1:09 extinction and then to have the numbers
1:10 that we currently have today is really
1:12 quite the testament to conservation and
1:14 preservation of a species like [music]
1:16 the American alligator.
1:17 So subscribe now on YouTube or wherever
1:20 you get your podcasts so you never miss
1:23 an episode.
