Celebrating 60 Years of Wild Kingdom: Mutual of Omaha’s New Conservation Series Now Airing

The new series, Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild, officially premieres today, Jan. 2, at 12:00 p.m. CST / 1:00 p.m. EST on RFD-TV and RFD-TV Now. Viewers can enjoy the first episode at WildKingdom.com on the new episodes page, starting Wednesday, Jan. 4. Hosted by Peter Gros, wildlife expert and co-host of the original Wild Kingdom series, the newest iteration of the show marks 60 years since the classic series’ debut in January 1963.

Since its network television premiere, Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom has been one of the most beloved and respected wildlife programs in television history, pioneering the nature adventure genre. By featuring wild encounters with commentary from expert hosts who were part of the action, Wild Kingdom has taken viewers of all generations to the far corners of the world to study wild animals in their natural habitats for 60 years.

“Stepping into the role as host of our newest series, 60 years after the original series aired on NBC, is a huge honor,” said Peter Gros. “I have such fond memories of my time filming the original Wild Kingdom with Marlin Perkins and Jim Fowler, and I look forward to continuing the legacy of educating people about the importance of conservation and inspiring the next generation about preserving the natural world.”

Bringing viewers closer to our Wild Kingdom

In collaboration with leading habitat and wildlife conservation organizations, the new series includes 10 episodes spotlighting conservation efforts taking place throughout the U.S. and highlights how the continual advance of technology is leading to stronger conservation efforts across the world. In addition to Host Peter Gros, the series features other experts and special guests, including Wildlife Ecologist Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant, Wildlife Educator Jeff Ewelt, Marlin Perkin’s daughter Marguerite Perkins Garrick and National Wildlife Federation experts Naturalist David Mizejewski and Wildlife Advocate Beth Pratt.

“The new Wild Kingdom series builds on the conservation legacy of our original show, and Mutual of Omaha is excited to remain at the forefront of supporting conservation efforts,” said Jennifer Wulf, vice president, brand strategy and engagement for Mutual of Omaha. “We’re excited about the partnership efforts with so many amazing conservation organizations and experts. The new series will highlight wildlife success stories and celebrate the positive impact compassionate individuals can have on our Wild Kingdom.”
