Mutual of Omaha is home to one of the industry’s most unique and rewarding financial representative trainee programs. Just ask Field Development Supervisor Tyler Vander Meer. In his pivotal role, Vander Meer provides:
One-on-one coaching sessions
Sales and marketing training
Advice and guidance on client acquisitions
Help refining presentation skills
In addition, Vander Meer spends much of his time in client meetings teaching trainees how to build a rapport, navigate various scenarios and recognize opportunities to acquire clients.
“Consistently putting trainees in front of prospective clients is crucial in their development,” Vander Meer said. “They not only need to learn how to make a sales pitch, they must understand the importance of active listening too.”
Client meetings also give Vander Meer an opportunity to “lead by example,” as trainees can observe how he gains a feel for what the client needs, builds trust, answers questions and addresses any concerns the client may have.
Why is Mutual of Omaha’s training program unique?
Extensive and ongoing support is one aspect that makes the training program at Mutual of Omaha unique.
“While most employers offer some type of training,” Vander Meer said, “it’s nowhere near the scope of what candidates find at Mutual of Omaha. It’s a very big advantage.”
Vander Meer said the program is also unique because:
Mutual of Omaha offers paid training.
Many other companies don’t provide compensation for trainees.
Mutual of Omaha has a dedicated training staff.
In other companies, training is often provided by an advisor who’s busy running their own business. So, they don’t have the time to properly develop trainees.
Mutual of Omaha never charges financial representatives for support services.
Some companies require trainees to pay for support services once they start taking clients.
There’s more stability with Mutual of Omaha
Once a new financial representative joins the team, Mutual of Omaha provides them a base salary, benefits and numerous bonus opportunities.
“Typically, financial representatives are paid on a straight commission basis. Having the stability of a base salary and benefits is so important in retaining new reps and keeping them motivated,” Vander Meer said.
As a Field Development Supervisor, Vander Meer enjoys helping people learn and grow professionally.
“It’s very rewarding to know I’ve helped someone pursue their passion of being a financial representative,” Vander Meer said.
