Join Mutual of Omaha’s Financial Analytics and Data Strategy Team as a Self-Service Financials Data Steward.  This role is the guardian and accelerator of trusted financial data translating financial understanding into durable, well‑governed data movement—so insights are fast, consistent, explainable, and ready for automation, advanced analytics, and AI innovation.  This role:

  • Protects trust in financial data used in analytics, regulatory reporting, forecasting, and AI
  • Ensures semantic model consistency so humans and machines interpret data correctly
  • Enables faster innovation by making data predictable, reusable, and production‑ready
  • Leads Self-Serve Financials data management (e.g., data rules, quality, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation)
  • Stewarded semantic models include:
    • Core Financials – actual, plan and forecast financial data
    • Group Financials – Group insurance unique and detailed data
    • Expense – detailed department expenses

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Serve as the liaison between Finance stakeholders, data owners, data consumers, and technology teams (ARTs/I/S), translating business needs into clear requirements and a strategic roadmap for self-serve financial data solutions.
  • Provide technical and functional leadership to design, solution, and continuously improve trusted data products (pipelines, semantic models, and BI assets) that enable data consumption, reporting, analytics, and AI use cases.
  • Partner with business and I/S teams to influence solution decisions, communicate impacts across interrelated initiatives, and ensure alignment to Finance data strategy, data completeness, and enterprise standards.
  • Lead end-to-end change governance including prioritization, testing, implementation, and release coordination to ensure data quality and prevent downstream impacts to data consumption, integrations, and dependent systems.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, practices, and methodologies; recommend best-fit approaches to improve performance, scalability, governance, and usability of self-serve financial.
  • Lead medium-to-large SSF initiatives by planning and executing delivery, managing stakeholders, and driving adoption through training, documentation, and executive-ready presentations.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Experience communicating business needs as data requirements and partnering with Finance stakeholders to define priorities and a delivery roadmap.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL/Excel Pivot, relational databases and data warehousing practices, with experience working across data pipelines/models to support data consumers.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining data solutions (e.g., curated data sets, semantic layers) in a governed, self-service consumption environment.
  • Experience leading or coordinating analytics/data initiatives end-to-end, including planning, testing/validation, release/implementation, and managing downstream impacts.
  • Data governance and quality leadership: hands-on experience with data definitions/metadata, data lineage, data controls, and operational data quality monitoring (rules, issue triage, remediation).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including producing clear documentation/training and presenting to business and/or leadership audiences.
  • Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.
  • Ability to travel occasionally (approximately 5–10% annually) to attend Finance and Actuarial events (travel reimbursed).

PREFERRED:

  • Modern BI + semantic modeling expertise (e.g., Power BI/Tabular/DAX or similar), including understanding of governed semantic layers and reusable metrics/KPIs for self-service consumption.
  • Cloud data platform experience (e.g., Snowflake or similar), including building/operating scalable pipelines and curated datasets in a production environment.
  • Finance data domain depth: experience with core financial concepts and reporting (e.g., GL/ledger, forecasting, management reporting, or regulatory) and translating those into data products.
  • Technical leadership/change management: experience serving as a technical lead or mentor, driving cross-team delivery, and enabling adoption through training, documentation, and stakeholder communications.
