Job No: 504040
Categories: Underwriting
Application Closes: Open Until Filled

We’re looking for a highly experienced and knowledgeable Underwriter V to join our team and take on the most complex and high-impact individual life insurance cases. If you have a strong track record underwriting large cases, thrive on complexity, and are known for your leadership and decision-making skills, we’d love to talk with you.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

  • Estimated Salary: $97,000 - $128,000, plus annual bonus opportunity.
  • 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.
  • Work-life balance with vacation, personal time and paid holidays. See our benefits and perks page for details.
  • Applicants for this position must not now, nor at any point in the future, require sponsorship for employment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Underwrite complex and high-risk life insurance cases with an approval authority $10 million+, including formal, informal, and pre-quote requests.
  • Act as a lead resource on large cases—offering expert evaluation, guiding decisions beyond the authority of junior underwriters, and determining when to use facultative reinsurance.
  • Provide mentoring and oversight to underwriters and support staff, helping the team meet quality and productivity goals.
  • Communicate regularly with agents, brokers, applicants, and internal teams to explain underwriting decisions and procedures.
  • Participate in training, field visits, and special projects that shape underwriting strategy and strengthen field relationships.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • 10+ years of full-authority life underwriting experience, with a strong focus on impaired risks and large case underwriting.
  • Approval authority of at least $10 million, with a proven ability to make high-stakes decisions and justify them with sound reasoning.
  • Completion of key coursework: LOMA 280/281 (online), 290, 311, 386 and ALU 101/201; strong working knowledge of mortality, financial risk, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and mentoring skills, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience working under pressure while maintaining attention to detail, sound judgment, and compliance with company and industry standards.
  • You promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.
  • Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.

PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or professional designations (FLMI, FALU, CLU).
  • Experience with Accelerated Underwriting and Long-Term Care.

We value diverse experience, skills, and passion for innovation. If your experience aligns with the listed requirements, please apply!
