The newly formed Corporate Strategy and Innovation  team at Mutual of Omaha plays an essential role in keeping the company moving in the right direction by spearheading innovation, intelligent automation, and transformational projects on behalf of our customers and across Mutual’s diverse businesses.  Our team not only helps traditional business models evolve;  we pioneer new ways to steer the enterprise forward capitalizing on both organic and inorganic growth levers. Our multi-disciplined professionals explore complex business issues; conduct consumer, competitive and market analyses; create financial models, develop and execute action plans to drive tangible growth and business transformation. The team serves as critical thought partners to our senior leaders and the broader organization to galvanize our teams around common goals. Our team is driven to acquire and develop high-octane talent for the company in order to build next-generation alumni to go on to leadership roles within Mutual's functions and businesses. With top talent and the DNA to catalyze action, the Strategy and Innovation team will help chart Mutual's path forward!

Leads and directs the strategic design, planning and communication of strategic plans and vision to key business partners and
leaders across the company. Collaborates and leads cross-functional teams through strategic planning and process improvement activities, gathering insights and analytics to solve strategic and operational challenges. Develops innovative business models designed to increase effectiveness within the organization and creating value for our customers.


  • Leads a portfolio of strategic projects address growth opportunities and operational initiatives of the enterprise.  Projects will range in duration, and require the management of integrated teams including Strategy & Innovation associates as well as cross-functional resources.  Capabilities required include market and consumer analysis, and business case development/analysis,
  • Leads efforts related to strategic intelligence – including macroeconomic, traditional competitor, and emerging trends across the insurance ecosystem.
  • Be adept at managing lean teams on high-impact efforts, requiring expert written and verbal communication skills, and strong analytics/financial skills.
  • Formulates, analyzes, and prioritizes company strategies/initiatives to diversify in new complementary markets, products and services.
  • Establishes internal consultancy by collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders and business partners, to identify, analyze, and accelerate strategies for growth and innovative business models.
  • Leads process and planning improvements; applies cutting edge principles, theories, concepts and technologies to solve strategic and operational challenges.
  • Gathers and accesses crucial insights and benchmarking across competitors' consumers, categories and channels via various internal and external sources.
  • Plans, implements and manages the Corporate Strategy and Business Unit generated projects and proposed recommendations.
  • Develops analysts by providing mentoring, training and developmental opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains an engaged and accountable workforce.
  • Develops and maintains a fair and equitable working environment.


  •  Bachelors' degree in business administration or related field or equivalent business experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in business administration/operations, management consulting or strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience in providing business unit driven consultancy, solutions, support or service.
  • Ability to work independently with strong, strategic planning and organizational skills; high sense of urgency; self-motivated and directed with a bias towards action, adaptable, team focused and detail oriented.
  • Excellent strategic planning, project management and leadership skills.
  • Natural collaborator with an ability to establish and maintain lasting relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and utilize significant data to make sound business decisions.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and influence different levels across the organization.
  • Excellent presentation skills, including strong oral and writing capabilities; ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to senior managers and external business partners.
  • Ability to deal effectively with ambiguity, change, and prioritize in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent research and analytical abilities with ability to translate raw information into actionable strategies and initiatives.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
  • Ability to develop and operate within budget.
  • Ability to teach and foster development in others.

  • Master's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry and/or financial services would be beneficial, but the individual may have experience across a variety of industries.

  • Pay commensurate with experience.
