Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does the regulation cover all annuity products, including fixed, single premium immediate annuities (SPIAs) and, if applicable, variable and indexed annuities?

A. Yes, the model regulation includes all annuity products including fixed, SPIAs, variable and indexed annuities.

Q. Is the product-specific training an annual requirement?

A. No, it is a one-time only requirement for each product. New training or updates may be provided when features of the products have been revised.

Q. If a producer is appointed in multiple states, does s(he) have to take the exams multiple times upon adoption by each state?

A. For the product-specific training, the answer is no (unless certain states have different products ). For the general 4-hour training requirement, the model regulation provides for reciprocity among states, but the actual requirement may vary depending on the language in each individual states' adoption of the regulation (in other words, states may elect to not allow reciprocity).

Q. The agent took the 4-hour training, but United of Omaha does not have verification, what should the agent do?

A. The agent can fax a copy of the completion certificate to Producer Services.

Q. Where can agents take the 4-hour training course?

A. The 4-hour training requirement must be completed through an approved CE training provider. For example, Iowa currently has several vendors approved to provide the training. Check your state insurance department website for a list of approved vendors.

Q. What if an agent only completes one of the two parts of the training?

A. The agent must complete both the 4-hour CE course and United of Omaha's product specific training course prior to solicitation to be in compliance with the training requirement.

Q. What actions will be taken if the agent does not comply?

A. If the agent does not comply with the training requirement, we will not process annuity applications submitted by the producer.

Q. Will applications be returned to agents who have not completed the training?

A. The application must be solicited and dated at least one day after the training requirement has been met. When an application is received our systems will check all compliance requirements. If any requirements have not been completed, a new application will be required prior to policy issue.

Q. Where do I call for questions?
