Ryan Lochte

Ryan on progress

“I thought '08 would be my peak, but I'm finding ways to get better, stronger all the time. It's a good feeling.”

Ryan Lochte is a swimming machine. A finely tuned machine. He continually improves his fitness, tweaks his form and hones his mental toughness to do what he loves, race the best in the world.

His times are proof of his commitment. Ryan set the U.S. Open record in the 200m individual medley at the 2009 U.S. World Championships Trials with a time of 1:54.56. Just weeks later at Worlds, he broke the world record in 1:54.10.

At the 2010 Short Course Worlds, Ryan earned six gold medals, two in world-record time. He finished the 400m individual medley in 3:55.50, almost two seconds lower than the previous record. And, in the 200m individual medley, Ryan broke the world record by more than a second (1:50.08) and beat the second-place finisher by nearly three seconds. What’s more, these records are the first individual world records set in 2010 after high-tech bodysuits were banned.

Watch this speedster continue to drop times on his way to his fourth Olympics in 2016.
