“Swimming has brought so many wonderful things into my life and allowed me to learn a lot about myself. It has really pushed me to grow as a person!”
Among all her swimming achievements, Misty Hyman is perhaps best known for one defining race. At the 2000 Olympics, Misty took gold in the 200m butterfly and set an American record by defeating the Australian who hadn’t lost that event in six years.
“When I got up behind the blocks, I wasn’t thinking about who was next to me and that it was the Olympic finals. I was just focusing on swimming,” Misty said. ”To actually have that breakthrough race, was incredible. I still have trouble putting into words.”
