Schmitt Breaks 36-Year Long Record at Pan American Games

Olympic champion and Gold Medal Team member Allison Schmitt broke a 36-year-old Pan American Games record when she took gold in the women's 200-meter freestyle during night two of the Pan American Games. The feat makes her arguably the world's best female freestyler.

Schmitt led from the start and cruised to gold in 1 minute, 56.23 seconds to clip Cynthia Woodhead's 1979 Pan American Games record of 1:58.43 by more than 2 seconds.
