Brian Poppe Named Chief Data Officer

OMAHA, Neb. (Aug. 2, 2022) – Brian Poppe has been named Chief Data Officer at Mutual of Omaha. He leads the enterprise-wide data and information strategy including building a cloud-based data and analytic platform, advancing data and analytics capabilities to enable actionable insights, and maturing machine learning capabilities. 

Poppe joined Mutual of Omaha in 2009 and served in a variety of actuarial roles on both the product side and the corporate side, including starting the innovation practice at Mutual. He led Departing Well Solutions, where he managed product profitability for final expense life insurance needs. Before his current role, Poppe was the senior vice president of technology modernization in Information Services. He evaluated and prioritized tech modernization projects, provided a framework for migrating data and systems to the cloud, and influenced IS to help deliver solutions in a way that produced customer value, emphasized speed and enabled analytics.

Poppe received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). He has earned the designations of Fellow and Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst from the Society of Actuaries.  

Poppe is the executive sponsor of Mutual of Omaha’s Emerging Leaders Network. He is chair of UNL’s College of Business Young Alumni Board and is an advisory board member for the Raikes Program at UNL.
