Sustaining a Legacy

Dear Mutual of Omaha,

I never expected to be writing this note, especially as a 41-year-old widow. But, here I am, sitting in my living room, looking back on the six months that have passed since my husband Brad died in a motorcycle accident.

Brad loved to ride his motorcycle. I told him that if anything happened to him, I needed to be able to pay off the house and be home with our kids for at least a year. That's when he contacted a Mutual of Omaha agent about additional life insurance.

In the month before he died, Brad lost an aunt. It forced us to talk about what we would do if something should happen to one of us. Brad knew that if something happened to him, I wouldn't know what to do. He left business cards from our Mutual of Omaha agent around the house so the number would be easy to find if I needed to call him.

On a Wednesday morning in May, I found one of the cards and made the call. Brad had died the previous afternoon.

That morning, our agent came to my home and immediately began to answer the phone and help me make the necessary arrangements. I'd never paid a bill or dealt with any of our family's finances. That was Brad's job. Our agent helped me manage the money I received from the death claim and sort through issues regarding the death certificate, the accident report and Social Security.

I believed him when he told me everything would be all right. If it wasn't for him, I'd still be struggling. He was professional, laid out all my options without being pushy and had answers when I had questions.

No amount of money will ever replace Brad. But even in death, he is taking care of our family. Thanks to his life insurance coverage and the relationship he found in our agent, I'm able to be there for my kids as we all learn to adjust to life without Brad.

Thank You!

Donna Scott
