Russell was one of the surprises of the 2011 Nationwide Tour season, finishing 12th on the money list and earning his place on the PGA Tour in 2012. Russell kick started his season by Monday qualifying for the Fresh Express Classic, where he tied for second. He went on to post one victory and seven top 25s the rest of the season. Born in Scotland, Russell was an All-American golfer at Jacksonville University.
