Mutual of Omaha Adds New Long-Term Disability Options For Medical Professionals and Attorneys

Omaha, Neb. – (August 14, 2008) Most disability insurance plans cover the basics. But, if you’re a highly paid and specialized medical professional or attorney, how can you adequately protect your income? Mutual of Omaha has addressed this with new Long-Term Disability (LTD) options designed to meet the unique disability insurance needs of these individuals.

The LTD plans for medical professionals and attorneys include several features to help meet their income protection needs. These options:

  • Recognize the specialty or sub-specialty that a physician practices
  • Protect a covered person’s disability benefit if they experience a reduction in earnings over time, due to a progressive illness
  • Protect covered workers who contract an infectious or contagious disease who are not disabled but experience a loss of income
  • Provide continued benefits for a number of months after returning to work
  • Provide a paid benefit to the employer for a predetermined number of months if an employee becomes disabled and receives benefits under the plan

“Medical professionals and lawyers spend an enormous amount of time and resources to gain knowledge of their profession and need special provisions to help protect their income and business,” said Michelle Lebens, vice president of Group Insurance Product Marketing and Strategy at Mutual of Omaha. “Mutual of Omaha’s LTD plans for medical professionals and attorneys are more robust and designed to help highly paid professionals establish a sound financial plan.”
