Midtown Crossing at Turner Park Construction Reaches Milestone

Omaha, Neb. – (October 29, 2008) The construction of Midtown Crossing at Turner Park, a million-square-foot mixed use development at the western gateway to downtown Omaha, reached a key milestone Wednesday when construction crews ‘topped out’ one of the development’s three condominium towers.

Rather than a traditional steel beam or wooden timber, the building’s post-tensioned concrete construction required workers to top off the nine-story tower with a huge bucket of concrete hauled to the top by one of the project’s four large tower cranes.

Giving the order to hoist the concrete were John McClelland, senior vice president of Midtown Crossing owner Mutual of Omaha, and John Taylor, senior vice president of Weitz Co., the project’s general contractor.

McClelland praised the construction workers who have kept the massive project on schedule since ground was broken in September of 2007.

“Let me tip my hat to those of you who work outside in the elements day in and day out. Congratulations on your great work,” McClelland said. “Next year at this time, when Midtown Crossing at Turner Park is nearing completion, I hope that you’ll have an opportunity to step back and take a moment to appreciate the significance of this project and the important role you played in making it happen.”

Built around an expanded and revitalized Turner Park, Midtown Crossing features 297 condominiums, 196 apartments, 225,000 square feet of retail space for restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, a five-screen Marcus Theatres movie theater, a 31,000-square-foot Prairie Life fitness center and a 132-room Element by Westin extended stay hotel. It is on schedule to open in November 2009.
