Omaha, Neb. – (October 6, 2009) Paula R. Meyer, an independent management consultant with extensive experience leading financial services companies, has been elected to the Mutual of Omaha Board of Directors, Chairman and CEO Dan Neary announced.
Meyer has held senior leadership positions at Ameriprise Financial, Inc.; Piper Capital Management, Inc.; SECURA Insurance Companies, Inc.; and the Vanguard Group of Investment Companies, Inc.
“Paula Meyer brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the financial services industry that will add a valuable dimension to the Mutual of Omaha Board of Directors. We will rely on her perspective, as well as that of our other distinguished board members, as we work to achieve our strategic vision in an increasingly competitive and highly regulated environment,” Neary said.
A graduate of Luther College and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, Meyer began her career at the Vanguard Group of Investment Companies, where she held a variety of positions involving product development, retail and institutional marketing, and customer service.
Meyer served as Executive Vice President of the SECURA Insurance Companies and President of SECURA Investments before joining Piper Capital Management in 1993 as Senior Vice President of Marketing. In 1997 she was named President of Piper Capital Management.
In 1998 Meyer joined Ameriprise Financial, Inc. (formerly American Express Financial Corp.), serving as President of RiverSource Funds and Ameriprise Certificate Company, Senior Vice President of RiverSource Investments, and Chief Operating Officer of RiverSource Distributors.
Meyer, of Saint Ansgar, Iowa, and Edina, Minn., became an independent management consultant in 2006. She currently serves on the boards of First Command Financial Services and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines. She is Chair of the Luther College Board of Regents and President and Board Chair for Friends of Ngong Road, which provides education and support to children living in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, whose lives are affected by HIV/AIDS. Meyer is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
