Jeffrey R. Schmid, who served 13 years as president of American National Bank in Omaha, has been named president and chief executive officer of Omaha Financial Holdings, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mutual of Omaha established to explore banking initiatives.
Schmid joined Omaha Financial Holdings after an 18-year career with American National Bank, where he was president and director. American National Bank is a $1.5 billion commercial bank with 30 offices in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.
“Jeff Schmid has the experience, expertise and vision to lead Mutual of Omaha’s exploration of banking opportunities, and I am looking forward to working closely with him as we open this new chapter of our business,” said Mutual of Omaha Chairman and CEO Dan Neary.
“Mutual of Omaha has a solid financial base, visionary leadership and one of the strongest brands in the country,” Schmid said. “We want to leverage those strengths to create a dynamic banking operation that compliments the company’s insurance portfolio and brings real value to Mutual of Omaha’s customers.”
Schmid joined American National Bank in 1989, chartering a new bank in the Omaha suburb of Papillion. Previously, Schmid served as a regional bank examiner for eight years with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. in Kansas City.
