100 Days of Caring and KaBOOM! Allow Mutual Employees to Make an Impact in the Community
Omaha, Neb. – (January 27, 2009) One hundred years ago, Mutual of Omaha was founded on a simple principle, helping people in their time of need. The help has come in many forms to many people, but two important groups have been the company’s customers and the Omaha community.
As Mutual prepares to celebrate it’s 100th anniversary on March 5, 2009, the company, along with the Mutual of Omaha Foundation, is launching an ambitious effort to give back to the Omaha community and five additional communities throughout the United States.
100 Days of Caring = 13,276 Employee Volunteer Hours
Beginning April 16 and running through July 25, Mutual employees will have the opportunity to step out of the office and spend time helping at one of 10 local community agencies. Each Mutual employee will receive four hours of paid time to volunteer during a work day.
Themed, “100 Days of Caring,” the Omaha-based effort will place Mutual employees in volunteer opportunities at: Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands, Girls Inc. of Omaha, Heart Ministry Center, Heartland Family Service, Nebraska Food Bank Network, Omaha Street School, The Salvation Army, Siena Francis House, Stephen Center and Youth Emergency Services.
Mutual employees will participate in projects ranging from construction and landscaping to sorting and organizing.
Taking Kids’ Ideas and Creating a Big KaBOOM!
Mutual of Omaha’s 100 Days of Caring will begin and end with a big KaBOOM!. KaBOOM! is a national non-profit organization that envisions a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America. The organization will work with Mutual of Omaha and the Mutual of Omaha Foundation to coordinate two playground builds in Omaha, as well as builds in Denver, Dallas, St. Louis, Tampa and Phoenix. Prior to each build, they will work with children at each recipient organization on a “Design Day,” where they will draw and express ideas about what their dream playground would look like.
The first Omaha build will be on April 16 at The Salvation Army’s Camp Eppley facility, with Design Day on Feb. 5. The second Omaha build will be on Aug. 6 at an organization to be named at a later date. Mutual employees and individuals from the communities where the builds will take place will be on-site to help with the day’s construction.
“Mutual of Omaha’s centennial is a time for us to honor our past and celebrate our future,” Chairman and CEO Dan Neary said. “The 100 Days of Caring and KaBOOM! efforts will enable us to demonstrate, in a small part, the appreciation we have to the Omaha community for the tremendous support they have provided our organization over the years. We are honored to be a part of Omaha and we look forward to the next 100 years.”
