OMAHA, Neb. — (November 19, 2008) Midtown Crossing at Turner Park, a million-square-foot mixed-use development under construction in the heart of midtown Omaha, has earned Stage 2 LEED certification under U.S. Green Building Council's pilot Neighborhood Development Certification program.
Midtown Crossing was selected to participate in the council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) pilot Neighborhood Development Certification program. It is the only project in Nebraska or Iowa participating in the program.
LEED for Neighborhood Development recognizes projects that protect and enhance the overall health, natural environment and quality of life in their communities. It includes best practices in smart location and transportation linkage; environmental preservation; compact, complete and connected neighborhoods; and high-performance, green construction and technology. LEED Stage 2 certification represents full certification of the neighborhood development plan. Final certification occurs when the project is completed.
"We are proud to be among the first projects in the nation to receive LEED Certification for Neighborhood Development and to help set the standard for best practices in urban redevelopment," said Keith Bawolek, executive vice president of Midtown Crossing developer ECI Investment Advisors, Inc. "Built around more than seven acres of green space in the revitalized Turner Park, Midtown Crossing is creating a walkable neighborhood with residences, services, dining and entertainment in close proximity to many of the city’s major employers, universities, medical centers and attractions."
On schedule to open in November 2009, Midtown Crossing at Turner Park features seven buildings with 297 condominium units, 196 apartments, 225,000 square feet of retail space and parking for more than 3,000 vehicles, including secure underground parking for condominium owners. Anchor tenants include a 31,000-square-foot Prairie Life Fitness center, five-screen Marcus Theatres movie theater with in-seat dining and beverage service and an upscale 132-room Element by Westin extended stay hotel.
