Mutual of Omaha Foundation Awards Third Quarter Grants

OMAHA, Neb. — (August 1, 2007) A new outreach program in north Omaha is giving youth the opportunity to overcome poverty through education and positive reinforcement, thanks in part to a grant provided by the Mutual of Omaha Foundation.

The Foundation recently awarded the Hope Center for Kids a $50,000 grant to help fund its Preparation for Higher Learning program. The program aligns with the Foundation’s family-centered mission by helping teenagers identify and develop individual strengths with the goal of providing a brighter future.

The grant was one of nine awarded by the Foundation during the third quarter of 2007, totaling more than $1.2 million in funding to nonprofit organizations throughout the community. Also included among the grants were four multi-year gifts made on behalf of large capital campaigns, including a $200,000 five-year grant for the redevelopment of the Joslyn Art Museum campus, a $200,000 two-year grant for the construction of the Charles E. Lakin Human Services campus in Council Bluffs, a $250,000 five-year grant for the development of Omaha South High School’s stadium and a $500,000 five-year grant for the construction of the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
