OMAHA, Neb. — (June 26, 2007) Youth in north Omaha now have an opportunity to play Little League baseball – a sport that wasn’t readily available in the past – thanks in part to a $5,000 grant from Mutual of Omaha. The E.R. Danner Neighborhood Association is teaming up with Memorial Park Little League to offer approximately 40 kids the chance to participate in a baseball league that includes skills teaching and competition. In addition, a tee-ball league will be formed at the small baseball diamond located at Kountze Park. The baseball program will provide the youth with a safe and fun activity and introduce them to a sport that is hasn’t been available in north Omaha for many years.
The grant is one of 10 that Mutual of Omaha is providing to local neighborhood organizations as part of its Neighborhood Grant Program. This year, the company has awarded a total of $30,000 to help the organizations improve the quality of life for their residents.
“We congratulate our 10 grant recipients for their creative and diverse programs that will ultimately help build a stronger community,” said Christine Johnson, Director of Community Affairs at Mutual of Omaha.
